What “free” means in this shortlist

NParks lists general garden entry as free and identifies the National Orchid Garden as the admission-charged exception. Its visitor page also distinguishes the entrances: Napier MRT serves the Tanglin side, while Botanic Gardens MRT serves the Bukit Timah side. Choose the part of the Gardens you want before choosing a station.

For an unhurried outing, select one area and a manageable return route. The garden’s size is a reason to make a choice, not an invitation to cover every section. Supertree Grove: see the structures from the ground

The Gardens by the Bay operator lists the Supertree Grove as free admission. This is the ground-level garden experience. An elevated walkway, an observatory or a conservatory is a separate decision with its own entry arrangements.

Choose what interests you about the place: a short look, time with the planting, or an outdoor evening. Do not buy an additional ticket simply because it appears beside the place you intended to visit. Check current operating information before choosing a time-sensitive experience.

Heritage Gardens: a culture-focused garden stop

The operator lists free entry to Heritage Gardens and describes four themed gardens connecting plants with Singapore’s cultural history. It is a useful choice when you want more than a landmark photograph from your garden visit.

Leave time to read the interpretation rather than treating each section as a quick tick. This can be the main focus of a short Gardens by the Bay outing; you do not need to combine it with every free area on the map.

Serene Garden: choose it for a different pace

Serene Garden is another free-admission outdoor area according to the operator. Its visitor page also carries temporary notices when the space is affected by events. Check that page instead of relying only on a general list of garden opening hours.

Treat it as a deliberate change of pace. If your main goal is a simple garden outing, one quiet section and time for a break can be more useful than adding another distant stop just because it also has no entry fee.

Two realistic ways to combine the shortlist

Option one is a Botanic Gardens outing with a chosen entrance and one main area. Option two is a Gardens by the Bay outing with one or two of the three named sections. These are editorial combinations, not prescribed walking trails.

If you want to visit both major garden sites in one day, count the transfer as a separate journey and reduce what you plan inside each. For a first visit with limited time, choosing one is a reasonable decision.
