Choose the region deliberately
The central islands and Misool are not interchangeable bases for a short visit. Start with the places that interest you and ask what travel time they require. A route focused on one area can leave more time for shore visits and rest.
Ask for the non-diver programme
Some trips are organised around dive sites and dive timings. Ask which shore walks, viewpoints, kayaking or guided snorkelling are actually available, and whether they need separate staff or permission. Do not assume every dive stop is also a suitable snorkelling stop.
Make local visits respectful
Ask how visits are arranged and what local fees support. Take photographs with permission and use local guides where appropriate. Treat villages as places people live rather than as an attraction included in the fare.
Allow for the logistics
Include arrival and departure nights if connections require them. Clarify food, drinking water, charging, communications and luggage arrangements with the accommodation or trip provider.
Keep expectations flexible
October–April is a planning window cited in Indonesian tourism guidance, but the exact route remains subject to conditions. Wildlife sightings and clear water cannot be promised. A satisfying trip needs activities you would enjoy even when one planned stop changes.
