Choose Batam or Bintan first

Decide whether the priority is a convenient change of pace, a beach stay or exploring local places. Check where your accommodation is in relation to the arrival terminal. A cheap ticket is less useful if it lands a long way from where you intend to stay.

Avoid adding a second island simply because it looks close on the map. A weekend has limited usable time once transfers, check-in and border formalities are included. One well-chosen base often makes more sense.

Day one: arrive and settle in

Take a sailing that leaves time for arrival formalities and ground transport. Keep the first afternoon light: check the surroundings, have a meal and confirm the following day’s plans. Do not schedule a tightly timed activity immediately after the expected ferry arrival.

Day two: one main experience

Choose a beach day, a local excursion or an agreed boat outing. Ask what transport, meals and entry arrangements are included before comparing prices. Keep the rest of the day flexible so that a delayed start does not disrupt every subsequent activity.

Day three: protect the return

Plan a slow morning close to your base and leave a buffer for the ferry terminal. Check the return terminal, check-in requirements and luggage rules directly with the carrier. Keep important onward travel separate enough to handle disruption.

If you are considering a private yacht

That is a separate international travel plan, not a substitute ferry ticket. Ask the operator to confirm the vessel’s route permissions, border procedures, guest documentation and the complete cost. A public ferry journey time does not describe the speed or schedule of another vessel.

Build the budget

Add return transport, terminal-to-hotel travel, accommodation, meals and your chosen activity. Keep any fees visible in the total and note which currency each supplier uses. The trip calculator helps compare two versions using your own quotes.

Before booking

Confirm current entry requirements through the relevant authorities for your passport and itinerary. The fact that an island is nearby does not remove border formalities. This itinerary is a planning outline; it does not establish entry eligibility or availability.
